In 1992, Amanda Bossard began her studies in marine biology in Anchorage in Alaska at the University of Alaska Pacific. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, when she started working aboard the vessel F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner converted to a salmon tender was operated by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard is currently engaged to Aritan and they've come together to prove their claims to the industry. Both of them are proponents of conserving and profiting from natural resources that are used in the fishing industry. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood distributor that was started by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007 by a woman who is now the mother of two young children: Bella aged 3, and Andre aged 1. She and her husband are separated by five months, and more for her to concentrate on her financial goals and her environmental goals. Bossard along with their son Andre and daughter Isabella will return to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the salmon season. in a tiny 42 salmon trolling vessel using hooks and lines to catch their targeted salmon, they work with Aritan during two consecutive months selling to local processors, and then continuing to increase their direct market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way of purchasing the custom processing capabilities of small processors in order to produce unique wild seafood products that reflect their dedication to quality and the environment.
